Since most of us don't live in or near Bulgaria, we missed out when the 'Big Four' – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – took the stage together for the first time ever on June 22. The event was beamed live into 1,000 theaters globally via satellite, so it was kinda like being there. However, if you want to enjoy the four legends of thrash metal in the comfort of your own home, you can on Nov. 2. That's when 'The Big Four Live From Sofia' lands in stores. 'The Big Four Live From Sofia' includes full shows from all four bands on a two-disc set, as well as behind-the-scenes and interview footage. Warner Bros. will release the monumental DVD. In addition to the two-disc set and the corresponding Blu-ray, there will be a limited-edition 'Super Deluxe' version including the two DVDs, five CDs with all five hours of music, a 24-page booklet, a two-sided poster, photos of each band and a collectible Big Four guitar pick. Lars Ulrich of Metallica said, "Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's Big Four would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theater near you in high definition (for better or worse??!!). Cast your mind back a few years and you may remember that NVIDIA was having a little problem with its mobile GPUs. Affectionately called  ‘ConnectorGate', the fault led to a very high failure rate of the graphics-chips in certain Dell and HP laptops. Shortly afterwards, Apple came forward to admit that MacBook Pro laptops equipped with the GeForce 8600M were also suffering from the same affliction. Now, several years – and countless repaired laptops – later, NVIDIA has finally brought the matter to an end by offering to settle the class-action lawsuit surrounding the faulty hardware. As far as we can tell from looking over the settlement agreement, NVIDIA will have to deposit $2 million into an escrow fund. Claimants can then apply to have the costs of any repairs reimbursed or to have their notebooks repaired for free. By settling, NVIDIA has also opted to take on the claimant's legal fees, which amount to a whopping $13 million. As well as having to pay its own legal fees, the GPU-maker loses the right to argue that the opposition's fees are disproportionate or unreasonable. Oh dear.

Hackers in eastern Europe who used computer viruses to steal usernames and passwords teamed up with foreign students who opened bank accounts in the U.S. to snatch at least $3 million from American bank accounts, authorities said Thursday in announcing charges against more than 80 people. Thirty-seven people were charged in court papers unsealed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, money laundering, false identification use and passport fraud for their roles invasion of dozens of victims' accounts, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said. Fifty-five have been charged in state court in Manhattan. "The mouse and the keyboard can be far more effective than the gun and the mask," Bharara said at a news conference, comparing evil-minded cyber sleuths to classic bank robbers. He said the victims included five banks and dozens of individuals with accounts throughout the country.

A new survey of prospective smartphone buyers has found that hype from the iPhone 4 has died down, and Apple's smartphone is only slightly more preferable to consumers than devices running Google Android. The results, released Thursday by ChangeWave Research, show that initial hype over the iPhone 4 has died down, and the competition between Apple's handset and devices running Google Android has returned to a horse race. Of 4,000 respondents polled on Sept. 23, 37 percent said they would prefer an Android phone, while 38 percent chose the iPhone. Though Apple is still the top choice by a percent, its number is reduced from the 50 percent of future smartphone buyers who said they would opt for an iPhone 4 after it launched in June. In the same time, Google has seen an increase from its June number, in which 30 percent of respondents said they would choose Android. "We've seen huge leaps forward for the Android OS in four of the last five ChangeWave surveys," the research firm said. "All told, it's a six-fold increase in consumer preference for the Google OS in a year’s time."
