ExploreMusic's Mike Sullivan conducted an interview with EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee after the band's August 20 performance at the third annual MTS Rock On The Range Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba. You can now watch the chat below. EVANESCENCE played its first concert in almost two years on August 17 at War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. |
|
| The group performed four new songs from its upcoming self-titled third album, including first single "What You Want", which opened the show. Until now, EVANESCENCE has only performed live twice since 2007 and Amy Lee told The Pulse Of Radio that both times were a good indicator for how she feels about playing live again. "It's like I forget that I'm that other character," she said. "It's like, 'Wow, I've got to put the boots on and be her again. I'm not really sure if I remember how.' But as soon as I stepped onto the stage, it just took me over and felt right." A five-year drought ended for EVANESCENCE fans on August 8 when the band performed its "What You Want" live on MTV, with the song also heading to rock radio and iTunes at the same time.

Ozzy Osbourne wasn't in Hollywood last night (Monday, August 22) for the premiere and special MusiCares screening of his movie, "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne", which was filmed and produced by his son Jack. His absence was conspicuous and lends credence to the rumors that Ozzy is in England working on material for a new BLACK SABBATH album with other members of the band's original lineup. |
|
| Artisan News asked Ozzy's daughter Kelly at last night's event where her dad was and she sort of let the cat out of the bag while her brother was better able to keep the secret. "My dad is… I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you," Kelly said. "But he's doing something that is very, very exciting. He's just finished a tour. But he's doing something very exciting. I'm not allowed to talk about it, though." When asked if there is any truth to the reports that Ozzy is in England working on a new SABBATH album, Jack replied, "I can neither confirm nor deny who he is with or where he is."

| Get the lowdown on the events that take place after the Aliens film. By Mike Sharkey Aug 23, 2011 ike the slowly building theme from Jaws or the "che-che-ha-ha" that signals the arrival of Jason from Friday the 13th, the distinct ping of a motion tracker means one thing: aliens are coming. And the motion tracker is pinging loud and clear in the newest trailer for Gearbox Software's shooter, Aliens: Colonial Marines. What happened after the events in James Cameron's Aliens? (Discounting the unfortunate Alien 3 and equally disappointing Alien Resurrection?) |

Advanced Micro Devices is rolling out updated versions of the company's Fusion C-series and E-series chips that promise better high-definition graphics,
more processing horsepower and longer battery life in next-generation laptops and desktop PCs. The new accelerated processor unit (APU) offerings also integrate DisplayPort ++ support to enable computer owners to connect their machines to a wide array of compatible monitors and TVs. Combining the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) onto a single die, AMD's Fusion C-series and E-series chips have sold well since their debut in January of this year, according to the chipmaker. AMD has shipped nearly 12 million APUs to date, and sold more than 5 million C-series and E-Series APUs in this year's second quarter alone. AMD Vice President Chris Cloran said consumers were looking for fast and brilliant HD streaming video, sharp photos, lifelike gaming through powerful DirectX11-capable, discrete-level graphics, and all-day battery life. "That's what AMD Fusion APUs deliver," Cloran said. "With these new APUs, we're bringing premium features to entry-level products that let users get a richer computing experience."

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is officially out in North America and racking up critical acclaim. The third game in the Deus Ex franchise—technically, it's actually a "prequel" to the series—will also be made available in Australia and Europe in the next few days, with a release in Japan scheduled for Sept. 8.
The first-person role-playing game is published by Square Enix and was developed by Eidos Montreal, taking over from Ion Storm, developer of Deus Ex (2000) and Deus Ex: Invisible War (2003). Deus Ex: Human Revolution puts players in the role of ex-SWAT commander Adam Jensen, now a private security officer with biomechanical augmentation firm Sarif Industries. Taking place in the year 2027, the game traces the conspiratorial beginnings of human augmentation some 25 years before the setting of previous Deus Ex titles. Following an attack on Sarif Industries that leaves him horribly injured, Jensen undergoes early augmentation treatment without his knowledge and spends the game searching for the "truth" behind the attack—a journey that takes him to cities like Detroit, Shanghai, and Montreal, where he encounters the likes of Sarif Industries founder David Sarif, aging mercenary Jaron Namir, augmented killing machine Lawrence Barrett, and elite assassin Yelena Federova. Without providing too much of a spoiler, fans of the Deus Ex series should be pleased to discover in the new game the origins of the United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition (UNATCO), the central global organization in the dystopian future of the original Deus Ex.

Over the last few months, Twitter has been rolling out some key new enhancements to their user experience, adding improved search functionality and the ability to upload images right from a user’s Twitter stream.
The photo upgrade came thanks to Photobucket hosting and appeared as a pic.twitter link and image for a user’s followers, as we reported in June and again two weeks ago, when the feature was officially available to a full 100 percent of Twitter users. Today, Twitter keeps the photo updates rolling, by adding image galleries to the everyday Twitter user experience. Huzzah! According to Twitter’s new support page, these user image galleries will collect the 100 most recent images a user has uploaded into his or her Tweet stream over the course of their recent Twittering careers, organizing them all on a single page, and displaying them in chronological order. “The images included in user galleries can come from Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram and other image sharing services supported in Twitter’s details pane”, Twitter said via its Help Center. Twitterers are likely going to appreciate this feature, as it means that users no longer have to click over to a third party photo sharing app to browse through a friend’s Twit pics. This new feature also serves Twitter well in its pursuit of a stickier user experience. Keeping users on the site for all of their photo sharing needs will no doubt be great for Twitter’s stats, and a welcome addition for users.

A couple months ago, rumors emerged that Apple is going to switch from Intel to ARM processors for its notebook computers.
Today, Intel exec Greg Welch told CNET that he's heard those rumors, too. We hear the same rumors and it would be remiss of us to be dismissive. We endeavor to innovate so they'll continue to look to us as a supplier. Welch is heading up Intel's $300 million Ultrabook program, where the chip maker will invest in hardware makers to help them build ultra-thin notebooks like the Macbook Air. A couple weeks ago, he told the Wall Street Journal that Apple had actually threatened to dump Intel, but made it sound like that threat had been resolved when Intel released a roadmap to create more power-efficient chips over the next few years.
