Nvidia to postpone shipments of MCP72 chipset family to January
By Monica Chen, Esther Lam, 28 December 2007
Nvidia originally planned to roll out the new MCP72 chipset in late November or early December but will now postpone shipping to January, along with the planned launch of its MCP78, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers. The sources detailed that Nvidia will introduce the new nForce 700a chipset family for AMD platforms, which includes MCP72XE, MCP72P and MCP78H in January, in attempts to compete with AMD's rival RD790 chipset. Around the same time as the launch of the MCP72 family, Nvidia will also introduce the new MCP78S which includes a GeForce 8 series-based IGP, the sources added.

NVIDIA 780i: Evolution Plus Triple SLI
By Wesley Fink Dec. 17. 2007
NVIDIA brought editors together at their corporate headquarters in late October to discuss the launch of nForce 780i, 8800GT, 8800M, 3-Way SLI, and ESA. It certainly appeared at that time that all those new technologies would launch in early November. Unfortunately, there were early problems with 780i and the Intel Penryn processor, and NVIDIA delayed 780i until the Penryn compatibility issues could be resolved. Since 780i is 680i with an added chip to support PCI 2.0 and two more x16 PCIe ports, it looked for a while as if NVIDIA might actually skip the 780i launch and wait until the DDR3 generation for a new chipset launch. Refinements for Penryn compatibility were completed and NVIDIA worked with Intel for Penryn family (Yorkfield quad-core and Wolfdale dual-core) compatibility certification. Now, almost two months later, today is the official launch day of the 780i and 750i chipset. This is not just a paper launch, since 780i motherboards are available, or will be very soon, from NVIDIA launch partners XFX and EVGA. NVIDIA calls this the launch of the NVIDIA nForce 700i Series.

AMD Introduces Hybrid CrossFire - Budget Gaming
AMD Readies ATI Hybrid CrossFire Technology
By: Nathan Kirsch Dec 13, 2007
AMD is announcing their upcoming Hybrid CrossFire technology today in New York during their financial analyst day, which is aimed at improving gaming graphics at lower price points. What makes this announcement even more exciting is the fact that they are showing off upcoming chipsets and graphics cards in the process. Legit Reviews was able to get a sneak peak at one of these systems just hours before they were shown to the public, so read on and take a look at what we got to see. AMD had a demo system setup that was running their latest and greatest chipset, the 780G. The AMD 780G chipset (codenamed RS780D) is one of three new chipsets that is going to be replacing the now year old AMD 690G chipset and by doing so will add support for new features like hybrid CrossFire. The logic behind doing hybrid CrossFire is simple. The majority of desktop computers sold today feature integrated graphics, which have a history of having a hard time playing the latest game titles. What if a consumer was able to install an entry level graphics card and be able to link the integrated and discrete GPU's together for improved performance? Since AMD makes chipsets and video cards this wasn't too hard and with the 780G chipset and the Radeon 3400 series of graphics cards they were able to pull it off. To make things even easier, when a Radeon HD 3450 or Radeon HD 3470 is installed into a 780G motherboard ATI CrossFire technology is automatically enabled. This makes for a simple user expierence and a breeze for system builders that are looking to save time and money.

Intel slows things down a bit
Engineers need to chillax a little
By Wily Ferret: Thursday, 20 December 2007
IS INTEL PREPARING for a technology slowdown, both product-wise and market-wise? There have been just too many stories out of Chipzilla in recent days suggesting that for the idea to be crazed. First off, we heard that Intel is flogging some businesses off to Emcore. In a bid to streamline its core business, Intel is getting rid of a few of the more 'experimenty' things it has been toying with. It appears to be staving off accusations of spreading the butter too thin before they occur. Then there was this story which quoted one of Intel's top VC men as saying that investments in technology startups were slowing with fewer investments being made - and with the suggestion that the mobile web is being killed by telecoms operators. We have also been following the rumour that Penryn mass roll-out has been delayed a few months. The crux? Intel's non-denial - that Penryn is still on track for 'Q1', which is a change from the previous 'January' position (a window of another two months, you see).

Comment: I like how stories get spun by other journalist -- Using terms like --> Slowing down a bit instead of saying running into problems --> Engineers need a chillax a little - instead of saying they have hit a road block. It's quite amusing. Let's face it folks there are good days and there are bad days. When you hear a company that brags about being the best and on top of things planning a slow down while in the face of competition, It only reveals either they are too arrogant and complacent or they are facing internal hardships and need to regroup before they fall on their faces. You never slow down a train that is running full steam ahead until it reaches its destination, It will only veer off it's tracks. Unless it wasn't running full speed ahead in the first place that is.
