City Phase — Bring your creatures’ race into a new golden era by building up the technology, architecture, and infrastructure of their city. Civilization Phase — Once your city is established, your creatures begin seeking out and interacting with other cultures. Make contact with an olive branch or a war cry. The goal for your creatures is to conquer the planet. Space Phase — The time has come to move on to other worlds in your solar system. Guillermo del Toro is reuniting with "Hellboy." The director of the 2004 feature will work with the creator of the comic book to develop an original video game based on the big, red, paranormal hero. Konami America chief operating officer Geoff Mulligan made the announcement Tuesday in connection with the video gaming conference Electronic Entertainment Expo unfolding at the Los Angeles Convention Center this week. Del Toro will collaborate on the "Hellboy" game with the comic’s creator, Mike Mignola. An avid gamer, Del Toro said in an interview before Tuesday’s announcement that he loves working in video games because there are no limits to the imagination. "There’s a very nice atmosphere with games, sort of Hollywood the way God intended it, really," del Toro said.
The action game will be released in 2007 and puts players in control of Hellboy, who comes armed with all of his familiar characteristics like the Right Hand of Doom.

Blizzard Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures are suiting up for war.
The companies are teaming to produce a live-action film based on Blizzard’s award-winning "Warcraft" video games, with Legendary acquiring movie rights to the "Warcraft" universe. The "Warcraft" games debuted in 1994, and the franchise now has four titles in release. "Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness" (1995) won multiple game of the year awards, while "Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos" (2002) broke sales records. The latest game, "World of Warcraft," is one of the most popular multiplayer online role-playing games, with a reported subscription base of more than 6 million.
The movie would not follow one of the games but rather be set in the epic fantasy universe, which includes orcs, trolls, elves and the undead.

by David Zlotnick 05/04/2006 In the early beginnings of survival horror gaming there was Alone in the Dark (1991) and not Resident Evil (1996) — which has often been misattributed as the genre’s origin. Representing an evolution of the traditional point-’n'-click adventure game , Alone in the Dark’s claim to fame was a heavy emphasis on clever puzzles and exploration set in the figurative confines of a supernatural mystery. Unfortunately, subsequent sequels transmuted the series into a set of clunky action thrillers which, in an ironic twist, paved the way for Resident Evil to take the world by storm. However, a reliance on rapidly-aging game mechanics began to take its toll on the Resident Evil series, slowly forcing it into the depths of fond memory. |
|
|
That is, until Resident Evil 4 came along. Able to simultaneously preserve the feel of the Resident Evil experience and reinvent the series with an infusion of immersive and fluid game mechanics, RE4 arguably represents the pinnacle of survival horror. And taking a page right out of Resident Evil’s book of reinvention, Alone in the Dark is hoping to make a thunderous comeback with its fifth installment after 15 years of twiddling its thumbs in the land that the videogame world forgot. Set in present-day New York’s Central Park — which, from museum to park bench locations, has been painstakingly recreated for your gaming pleasure — Alone in the Dark (as it is tentatively called) will once again return gamers into the midst of a supernatural mystery. Why is it that Central Park, one of the largest parks in the world, is allowed to take up so much space in an overly crowded New York City? As Edward Carnby — yes, the same Carnby from the first Alone in the Dark that was set a mystifyingly 80 years ago — you will discover what really lies beneath the depths of Central Park’s historically-rich landscape and delve into a paranormal exploration of the after-life.
