Breck Eisner’s The Crazies hits Blu-ray and DVD next Tuesday and ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk to the director about his next project, New Line/Warner Bros.’ update of Escape From New York. "I’m a huge fan. As a kid, I absolutely loved that movie. And Snake is such a bad-ass," Eisner told us. "The interesting thing about ‘Escape from New York’ is that it was a comment on the urban decay and the suburban flight coming out of the ’70s and early ’80s. Conceptually, it’s an idea that’s not true today because of the world we live in. So, how the prison is created is going to be different than in Carpenter’s version. The anxiety of the world and anxiety of our existence post-9/11 is there, especially the anxiety in Manhattan post-9/11. Plot-wise, they’re different, emotionally they’re very similar. That’s why it’ll be interesting to tackle this movie, to have a slightly different take but with the same results which is Manhattan is turned into a walled prison."

Breck Eisner’s recent remake of The Crazies caused many horror fans to sit up and take notice of the genre filmmaker. And though Eisner announced his next projects – Escape from New York and Flash Gordon, the next horror film he hopes to make has not yet been revealed…until now. (And no, it’s not a remake of David Cronenberg’s The Brood.) Hit the jump for the exclusive word on the film from one of the key men behind it. I just spoke with comic book creator Mark Wheatley (Frankenstein Mobster, Breathtaker), who told me that Eisner’s next project will be an adaptation of Wheatley’s Dracula comic Blood of the Innocent, co-written by writer Rickey Shanklin, with art by Marc Hempel and Wheatley.

Vulture has learned that Sam Raimi has been offered the director’s chair for Disney’s Oz, the Great and Powerful, a prequel to the 1939 MGM classic The Wizard of Oz. Sam Mendes and Adam Shankman had both been speculated as contenders for the job, but insiders tell us that Raimi received the official offer earlier this morning. The project is written by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards, Romeo Must Die), and Joe Roth — who, of course, used to run Disney’s studio back in the 1990s — is producing; Disney wants to start filming sometime this year.
It’s unclear if Raimi will accept: Last July, he was hired by Warner Bros.-based Legendary Pictures to develop a film based on the wildly popular World of Warcraft video game, with the plan being that he’d shoot it after he finished a fourth Spider-Man film at Sony. Of course, in January it became clear that Raimi would not be directing Spider-Man 4, leaving his next picture an open question.

With director Stephen Norrington’s reboot of "The Crow" reported to begin shooting soon, it’s about time we heard some details from someone involved with the project, isn’t it? Look no further, "Crow" fans — Edward Pressman, who produced the previous "Crow" installments, offered up plenty of new information on the developing film in an interview with MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg. |

| According to Pressman, Norrington’s screenplay is finished and, apparently, "terrific." After collaborating on some illustrations with "Avatar" production designer Rob Stromberg — illustrations that are "quite different from Alex Proyas’ approach with the original ‘Crow,’" Pressman said — Norrington’s vision is inching much closer to reality, with casting announcements on the way and filming beginning this year. "[We've got an offer out] to a major actor and things are moving ahead very aggressively, with the aim of doing the film this year," Pressman told MTV News.
