There was never much thought about whether there were more Call of Duty games in Treyarch’s future after Black Ops, but it is a bit of a surprise to learn that’s apparently all that now lies in Treyarch’s future. Speaking to CVG, Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said they’ve become solely dedicated to Activision’s blockbuster FPS franchise. "Treyarch is a 100 percent Call of Duty studio — and it has been for a long time now, long before any of [the Infinity Ward] events occurred," Lamia said, immediately dispelling speculation this newly revealed exclusive focus may be a result of CoD creator Infinity Ward’s gutting earlier this year. "We focused all of our efforts on creating the best Call of Duty game we possibly can and what that meant is not working on anything else. "We are a multiple team studio and focusing on Call of Duty and Call of Duty gameplay meant focusing all of our teams on that," Lamia continued. One result of this has been the formation of a dedicated multiplayer team inside Treyarch, which is something the studio didn’t have for their past Call of Duty games, Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War.

In case you haven’t noticed, the gaming industry’s in a bit of a financial slump these days. Last month brought us one of the sharpest declines in revenue in the history of videogames, and even Nintendo’s impressive fiscal 2009 results came up shorter than anticipated. Analysts from market research firm DFC predict all of that to turn around, however — but they also say the real recovery won’t start until after 2013. If the industry’s stuck in a decline for the next three years, then what’s the silver lining? According to DFC’s report (via Gamasutra), the games industry is predicted to hit global revenues of $70 billion in 2015. That’s a 16 percent increase over 2009’s estimated $60.4 billion. DFC blames the current slowdown in growth on slipping game console sales across the board. Matters are made even worse by the expectation that this generation of systems will continue on for much, much longer than traditional hardware cycles.

The mood at Infinity Ward, the studio behind 2009’s biggest game, is terrible and corporate parent Activision is unsure how to fix it, a source close to the development studio tells Kotaku. Infinity Ward, they said, "will continue to crumble."The source is privy to the goings on in Infinity Ward this week, an eventful period since Monday’s news that Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former chiefs of Infinity Ward who were fired by Activision in early March, were starting a new company, Respawn Entertainment.

Top Infinity Ward developers started leaving the studio last week and have continued to since the Respawn news, costing the under-100-person operation more than a dozen development employees."They’re scared shitless," the source said of Activision management. "They never saw this coming. They can’t believe what’s going on. At first they gave us some bullshit about moving up payments of all the money they owe us to sooner increments. That was when [designer] Todd [Alderman] and [engineer] Frank [Gigliotti] left. But with the announcement of Respawn and all the people leaving, they just got there heads in their hands."

Activision had not responded to a request for comment regarding the state of Infinity Ward.

Warner Bros. seems keen to highlight the new co-operative multiplayer as the most substantial addition. Players will command either the first game’s genetically engineered protagonist, Point Man, or Paxton Fattel, his undead, cannibalistic brother. Both characters will apparently sport their own unique set of abilities, which sound like they could open up some really interesting combat scenarios in co-op.

Eidos’ newly renamed project is to remain a single-player experience. Speaking to Eidos Montreal’s Game Director Jean-Francois Dugas, IGN Games confirmed that the teams’ recently renamed Deus Ex: Human Revolution will only be a single-player experience.

The prequel is set to arrive on console and PC sometime later this year. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a single-player game only. Being the first project out of the new Eidos Montreal studio, and staying true to the Deus Ex legacy, the development team wanted to focus purely on the single-player experience to ensure we delivered on that front.
