Yes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, is available on Steam, and Valve confirmed today that Activision's upcoming shooter will be powered by Steamworks, supporting offline play auto-updating, achievements, and more. As if to combat the deluge of news regarding Battlefield 3's absence from Steam, Valve sent out a press release today letting the world know Modern Warfare 3 — much like Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops before it — will feature Steamworks. Publisher Electronic Arts announced earlier this month that Battlefield 3 would not be sold on Steam because of Valve's "restrictive" terms of service. And just today, Mojang's Markus "Notch" Persson surprised many gamers when he said indie darling Minecraft would also remain absent from Steam because Valve "limits how developers interact with their customers." Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set for release on November 8.

Old-school 3D shooter set for October launch.

Serious Sam 3: BFE will begin blasting the unrelenting hordes of alien invaders on October 18. Developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital announced the official release date for the throw-back shooter today, promising to "blow the doors off of the recent cookie cutter first-person shooters." Featuring all of the hallmarks of the Serious Sam franchise — over-the-top enemies that attack in massive waves, an arsenal full of high-powered weaponry, and wide-open environments — Serious Sam 3: BFE will also feature new 16-player campaign co-op and versus modes. "We believe Serious Sam 3: BFE is the best Serious Sam game we've ever made," Croteam's Davor Hunski said in a statement. "We've designed a true arcade-style FPS game with the non-stop brutal action the series is known for and our fans have loved for the past decade."

Duke Nukem Forever, the winner of 9000 Vaporware of the Year awards and harbinger of the Apocalypse on the fact that so many outrageous bets will need to be fulfilled upon its release, has been released to the public. The sequel to the influential Duke Nukem 3D from circa 1996 has finally hit shelves and it only took about fourteen years to get here. The biggest joke in the entire games industry now has its punchline, problem is the set-up was more hilarious. Duke Nukem Forever could have been great given some more polish and care into implementing its mechanics, not to mention cutting the fluff of twelve years. But it was released on hoping nostalgia and reputation would be enough. As it is now, it's a disjointed mess of non sequitor levels, mismatched mechanics and a C grade script for a B grade movie. Sorry, but this time you can't bet on Duke.

Third game in Western FPS franchise set in present day.

Ubisoft is putting a modern spin on the Wild West world of Call of Juarez. The publisher announced today that the third game in the franchise, The Cartel, is now in development and set in present day. Call of Juarez: The Cartel is being developed by Techland, the team behind the original Western FPS and its 2009 prequel, Bound in Blood. "Call of Juarez: The Cartel is an action-packed shooter game with a strong story, interesting characters and a wide variety of gameplay options," said Adam Novickas, director of marketing at Ubisoft. "The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot." Ubisoft isn't ready to reveal many details, but the publisher did say the game will take players on a journey from modern day Los Angeles to Juarez, Mexico. More details are set to be revealed in the March issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which hits newsstands this week.

id Software boss Tim Willits has told VG247 that RAGE’s first DLC will hit soon after the shooter’s release, and that ongoing development of the new IP is being structured to allow “other platform games, sequels and prequels.”Speaking to Joe Anderson at EG Expo in London last weekend, Willits said simply, “Yes,” when asked if the game would be supported with downloadable content.“The framework is there, and we plan on supporting the game soon after launch.“We do think this is an important brand for us and we want to maximise the brand and also let people see that we are committed to this product.”Willits added that the RAGE universe has been specifically designed to allow spin-off products on multiple platforms.“One of the things we have done with RAGE is make the universe much richer than we have with our other games,” he said.

Developer says game looks great already, will be even better late next year.

The supposed final game in the Gears of War franchise should shine like polished silver. Publisher Microsoft and developer Epic Games announced today that Gears of War 3 has been bumped back to holiday 2011, giving the designers roughly seven additional months to work on the game. The publisher and the studio stated that all is well with the title, and the game's release date has been moved in an effort to make Gears of War 3 the marquee title for the holiday 2011 season. "I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue," Epic Games executive producer Rod Fergusson said in a statement. "Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall."
