Isn't it time we got up close and personal with zombies again? by Ryan Geddes Feb 16, 2011 When the axe sinks into rotten flesh, it buries deep, spraying gore with its impact. The blow cripples the shambling beast, buying precious seconds. But the strike, like its predecessors, is also costly. Repeated contact with ligament and bone has blunted the scavenged weapon. It will need repair soon, and if none can be made, it will be tossed aside in favor of something shiny and new. |

| This is the brutal combat of Dead Island, a world overrun by infected humans. They're aggressive beasties with superhuman strength and a taste for the red stuff. Like other zombie games (and there are many), the players are the last holdouts against the tide of a shuffling undead mob. And while it would be convenient to provide them with a magical room full of firearms with which to dispatch the problem, the makers of Dead Island have settled on a different approach.

Design and fortify settlements, search for food, ammo, and survivors, and kill zombies.
By Mike Sharkey Feb 3, 2011
Developer Undead Labs is working to create a massive, persistent online world of zombie survival horror, codenamed Class4.
Before it gets there, the Seattle-based studio announced today it will first release a scaled-down version of Class4 on Xbox Live Arcade, Class3. Formed in 2009 by ArenaNet co-founder Jeff Strain, Undead Labs was created with a single focus: to create a zombie MMO, or as Strain called it two years ago, an MMOZ. The company is still building toward it, Strain said today, and Class3, a third-person zombie survival horror game, will be a big step forward. "Undead Labs is thrilled to work directly with Microsoft to bring Xbox 360 players an outstanding zombie-survival franchise," Strain said in a statement. "Our mission is to create original online games that truly feel at home on the console platform, and Xbox 360 is a fantastic platform for online console gaming. We plan to create an ambitious open world XBLA game and use its gameplay, setting, and technology as the foundation for a full online world game." In Class3, players are asked a simple question: what would you do in the face of a zombie apocalypse? According to Undead Labs, the game will feature guns, cars, hand-to-hand combat and "copious amounts of zombie gore." So what makes it different from other zombie survival games? "Players choose where to make their stand, designing and fortifying their settlements, performing daring raids for valuable stores of food and ammunition, and rescuing other playable survivors," the studio stated. "The open world develops in real-time, shaped by player actions, with content determined by their choices and the ever-increasing zombie threat."

Still no official announcement from Treyarch, but it appears zombie Russians are coming.
By Mike Sharkey Sept. 28, 2010
There's little doubt gamers will get to unload on the undead in Call of Duty: Black Ops, but developer Treyarch is still tiptoeing around an official announcement or any specific details about the game's zombie mode.
Today, we get our best look yet at what's to come, and it appears the zombie virus has spread beyond the Third Reich. The Black Ops teaser site, GKNova6, previously home to cryptic messages about the game before it was officially announced, has been overrun by zombies. The viral site, which features a desk facing a stack of monitors, shows a number of different video clips. Piecing things together, it appears Treyarch is merging Nazi zombies from World at War with the Russians in Black Ops. That would jive with a recent statement Treyarch boss Mark Lamia made to Edge Magazine: "We continued to evolve [Nazi Zombies] after World At War – there was a dialogue going on with some of our hardcore community, and we were able to interact with the community and evolve — we did that with our zombie lore."

takes place in a desperate, nightmarish world where the dead walk the earth, relentlessly attacking the living. It is the story of Plum Island – a beautiful refuge whose isolation allows two powerful families to maintain a semblance of order in the wake of the zombie holocaust. But as the inhabitants slowly die off, the two clans become sharply divided: the O’Flynns believe that the undead must be destroyed without exception, while the Muldoons insist that afflicted loved ones be kept "alive" until a cure is found. The result is an escalating showdown with echoes of a classic Western stand-off that erupts in brutality and violence. Check out official website here –>Link |

We get some hands and eyes-on time with the enhanced PC version of the survival horror game.
by Jeff Haynes 7/16/09
In March of this year, Capcom released the latest chapter in their respected survival horror franchise. Resident Evil 5 capitalized on the improvements made throughout the series with the addition of co-op play that allowed you and a friend to take on the hordes of Kijuju. While the PS3 and 360 versions of the game have been out for a while, allowing BSAA agents plenty of time to blast through the game multiple times, the PC version of the game has been pushed back to September 15 in North America and September 18. However, the delay will come with very cool features that could make it the definitive version, such as being able to play through the entire game in stereoscopic 3D. I recently had a chance to check out the PC version at Capcom’s offices, and essentially rediscover the game in 3D.
